 As
many of our favorite holidays revolve around the table, there are
specific foods that we associate -- and have come to expect -- with
each celebration. Often, the recipes have been passed down the
generations, perpetuating the much anticipated good eating. So it is
with Christmas cookies. These treats, loved for their special shapes,
festive colors, and seasonal flavors, have become a symbol of holiday
cheer. The bite-size sweets are perfect for giving to friends and
family, sharing with a neighbor over a cup of tea, and serving at
holiday parties. For young and old, for those who celebrate the holiday
and those who don't, Christmas cookies are easy to love. Whether
you've baked Christmas cookies for years or are just starting a
tradition of holiday baking, you'll find all the recipes you need in Christmas Cookies.
The book offers 50 wonderful recipes, such as Toffee Bars that are part
cookie, part candy, light-as-air Cocoa Meringue Kisses, classic Pecan
Sandies, Eggnog Cookies with rum icing, Ginger Coins with the right
amount of snap, nutty treats such as Pecan Butterballs, Almond
Macaroons and Hazelnut Biscotti, decorated Sugar Cookies and
Gingerbread People that children will love, and many, many more.
In addition to 50 clearly written, detailed recipes, there are over 25
beautiful photographs and loads of useful tips, including:
- Guidelines for successful cookie baking
- Storage suggestions to help keep treats fresh for as long as possible

Note to readers:
People occasionally ask me if I have a favorite cookie. Well, that's
kind of like asking a mother if she has a favorite child and no one
would (or should!) admit to that. I do have some favorites, but my
choices are based on flavor and what I'm craving at the time, which
might be chocolate or something crisp or nutty or chewy. My preferences
also vary throughout the year, because I bake many of these cookies
during other seasons. To be honest, and a bit evasive, there's
something about each and every cookie in the book that I like. If you
can answer that question -- which cookie is your favorite? -- please email me and let me know what it is and how you can be so sure!
